Company Overview

Metalcraft of Mayville, Inc. - Precision Metal Fabrication and Custom Manufacturing

Metalcraft of Mayville can trace its heritage to the Peerless Traveling Goods Company, which was founded in Mayville in 1920. Peerless would manufacture various types of luggage products until the company ceased operations and was sold in 1958.

In 1926, J. Dorst Company, a die sinking business, also began in Mayville.  The company eventually converted into a metal stamping operation which produced parts for the automotive industry, as well as for Peerless Traveling Goods.  The company name was changed to Dorst Metalcraft in the 1940’s, and the business again changed its focus to sheet metal fabricating, producing items to customer contract specifications. Dorst Metalcraft purchased the assets of Peerless Traveling Goods in 1958.

Dorst Metalcraft was purchased by Edwin A. “Ned” Gallun, Jr., in 1973 and within a year, a new 63,000 square-foot plant was built on 30 acres of land at the corner of Slag Road and Highway V.  In 1974, the company name officially changed to Metalcraft of Mayville, Inc., and a section of County Highway V was renamed Metalcraft Drive. The company employed approximately 100 men and women by the end of the decade.

Today Metalcraft employs over 1,000 factory and office personnel in five facilities. The original plant has expanded to over 550,000 sq. ft., our West Bend, WI plant has grown to 250,000 sq. ft., and after acquiring Venture Manufacturing in 2017, we added a 103,000 sq. ft. plant in Beaver Dam, WI, which later expanded to 203,000 sq. ft. In December of 2018, Metalcraft acquired FJR Automation, of West Bend, WI, and then shortly after, in April of 2019, acquired Gamache Automation Systems, of New Berlin, WI, forming Metalcraft's Automation Division. Later on, in November 2019, Metalcraft acquired Versatran Inc., of Watertown, WI, signifying Metalcraft's entrance into the equipment transport industry.

Metalcraft manufactures a wide range of products for many industries, including Construction, Agriculture, Military, Material Handling, and of course, outdoor power equipment, where we produce our own product - Scag Power Equipment.

Since 1983, Scag Power Equipment has manufactured "Simply the Best" commercial lawn mowers and lawn maintenance equipment money can buy. Scag Power Equipment's innovation and attention to quality is known and respected throughout the industry. In 2012, Scag Power Equipment acquired Giant-Vac, a leading debris handling equipment manufacturer. The acquisition joined two great brands in the power equipment industry and significantly expanded its offering of high quality, high-value commercial-grade products.
